Set teaser tweaks

Published by on September 1st.

The way set previews are generated has changed a bit. This is not a big change, but there were multiple requests in the past to make it more predictable. This change affects both cursor and icon set previews, but in slightly different ways.

First, the resolution of the preview image may now be different. In the past, it was always 72x56 pixels, the native size of the image on the web. But these days many people are viewing pages on a hi-res display and use zoom >100%. That makes images larger and often blurry. If a web author wants to show a 100x100 pixels picture and keep it sharp, it must serve a higher resolution picture to the browser.

Icon set teasers are now 108x84 pixels and use 48x48 pixels icon images. Size of cursor previews depends on the image sizes in the cursor files. If they have 64x64 images, the previews will be 144x112 pixels, if they have only 48x48 images, the previews will be 108x84 and if they have only the classic 32x32 images, the size of the preview will remain the same 72x56 pixels. In short, if you are using a hi-res display, the previews should be a bit sharper in some cases.

The second change affects how images are chosen to be shown on the preview. From now on, for icons the first 3 uploaded icons are shown. For cursors, the web will try to pick cursors by role. In an ideal case, Normal Select, Busy and Link will be used for the preview. If they are missing it will look for Working in Background and Move cursors.

You may need to press CTRL+F5 to force your browser to download the updated previews.
