These are not cursors. These are icons. The misuse could be compared to The male boss' iPhone cursors that aren't cursors at all. I am alright with pointers with a little icon below it saying it is supposed to do with news, but I don't like misused icons/cursors that should be cursors/icons.

But i might suggest you on like this
Get rid green background, instead add a small cursor on it.
Also might don't need to be all square, make it bit like circle on " Please stand by "

these are pretty cool but they would probably work better as icons with the exception of the animated ones. I like the idea of this set. A suggestion I have is to put the hot spot to the top left corner
