I won't be able to fix the hotspots on some roles, as all cursors have multiple sizes and can't be modified online using the online cursor editor. This means having to reupload said cursors which I'm not doing.

I highly disagree. All you need is the Linux XCursors codec; while it might be tedious, it's still better.
The codec doesn't work very well. When loading a Linux cursor in RealWorld Cursor Editor using the codec, most of the time, it crops the cursor so that the bottom-right corner is blocked off, making the cursor look ugly.
